FAQ
Is it really free?
Yes. No purchase, no subscription, no trial, no footer credit you have to pay to remove and nothing held back for a paid tier. Use it on as many Shopify stores as you like, including client stores, and modify it as much as you need to. The one thing we ask is that you do not repackage and resell the theme itself.
Do I need a paid Shopify plan?
You need an active Shopify plan to publish any theme on a live store — that is Shopify's charge, not ours. You can upload and preview Electro on a development store or during a trial at no cost, and everything it does works on Shopify's entry-level plans.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Sections, blocks, colours, fonts, menus, images and layout are all set in Shopify's theme editor. Because the theme is built on theme blocks you can add, reorder and nest content on every template, including the product page.
Which apps does it need?
None to run. Collection filtering uses Shopify's free first-party Search & Disproduct imagey app, multi-currency uses Shopify Markets, and ratings use whichever review app you already have. All optional, and there is no paid app the theme depends on.
How do I get the brand to show?
Put it in the product's Vendor field. See Specification tables and Products & finishes.
Why is there no specification table on my product?
Because that product has no specs.table metafield yet. The block renders
nothing at all rather than an empty table, so you can add it to the template
before every product is filled in. See
Specification tables.
Can I use it for something other than products?
Yes. Nothing in it is book-specific in code — "brand" is Shopify's vendor field and "finish" is an ordinary variant option. It suits any catalogue sold on published numbers: tools, instruments, bicycle components, lab equipment.
Switch the card ratio under Theme settings → Product cards if your photography is portrait rather than square.
Will an update overwrite my changes?
No. Shopify does not auto-update a zip-installed theme. See Updates & support.
Is there an HTML version?
Yes — the Electro HTML template is the same design as a static site. Both are built from the same stylesheet, so they look identical, and it is the better starting point if you want to port the design to WooCommerce or a static site generator.
Is it fast?
The theme ships one stylesheet and one JavaScript module, with no jQuery, no CSS
framework and no third-party CDN request. Carousels are CSS scroll-snap and
drawers are the browser's own <dialog>, so there is no carousel or modal
library to load.
What your store actually scores also depends on your images, your apps and your Shopify plan — the theme can only avoid being the problem.
